The Space Creator
A free one page worksheet that shows you what to delegate,
starting with what is actually taking up your week.
Fifteen minutes. Five prompts. No app, no course, no email required.
The fillable version lets you type directly into the PDF.
The print version is for pen and paper.
You know you are stretched thin
The calendar looks reasonable. The list looks manageable. And yet the week ends and you cannot point to the thing you actually moved forward.
Here is what usually happened. A meaningful share of your time went to work that did not need you specifically. It needed someone. But you are capable, so it found you, and it kept finding you, and nobody thought to take it back because you never dropped it.
That is the mental load. Not the tasks themselves, but the noticing, the tracking, the remembering, the being the only person who knows where things stand. It is almost impossible to see from inside the week. It is very easy to see on one page.
How to decide on what to delegate
The Space Creator asks you to sort your time into five categories. The sorting is the point. Once things land in the right place, the decisions tend to make themselves.
Find Your Flow
The things you love and are great at. The work only you can do. For most people this list comes out shorter than expected, which is the first useful piece of information on the page.
Find Your Middle Ground
The things you like and are good at. Real contribution, genuinely yours, and the first place worth trimming when the week gets tight.
Find Your Trap
The things you do not enjoy but happen to be good at. The expensive one. Competence is exactly why these keep landing on you.
Find Your Weakness
The things you neither like nor do well. You already know what belongs here. Writing it down is what makes it harder to keep absorbing.
Why the Heck Are You Still Doing This?
The small recurring stuff that should have been handed off years ago. Returns, scheduling, chasing a vendor for the third time. Forgettable one at a time, a part time job in aggregate.
What tends to show up
The Trap section fills up fastest. Being good at something is not the same as it being a good use of you.
The bottom two sections are almost entirely delegable. Very little of it requires your judgment, your relationships, or your history.
Flow is usually the shortest list. Which is worth sitting with, because that is the work that actually moves your life or your business forward.
Why we made this
Valerie has spent 17 years placing support professionals with households and organizations. The same conversation comes up nearly every time. Someone knows they need help, but cannot articulate what they would hand off. They have absorbed so much for so long that the work has stopped registering as work.
The Space Creator exists to make that legible. It is the exercise we would walk you through on a call anyway.
Then what?
Seeing it is the straightforward part. Handing it off is where most people stall, usually because writing the job description, sourcing candidates, and vetting them is itself a project nobody has room for.
That is our part.
HouseSquire places House Managers with busy households. The role goes by a lot of names depending on who you ask: household manager, personal assistant, family assistant, estate manager. The work is the same. Someone who owns the day to day so you stop being the default answer to every logistical question in your home.
If your Trap section came out longer than you expected, that is usually the conversation worth having.
Questions
Do I need to finish it in one sitting?
No. Most people do a first pass in ten minutes, then add to it over the following week as things come up. The second pass is usually the honest one.
Should I fill this out for work or for home?
Whichever feels heavier. Plenty of people fill out separate copies for personal, work, and family obligations. Where the copies overlap is often the most useful thing on the page.
How much should I be delegating?
There is no benchmark. The comparison that matters is against your own expectations. If the bottom half of your page outweighs the top half, you have your answer.
What if I do not know who would take this on?
That is the normal starting point, and it is what a placement conversation is for. We handle the job description, the sourcing, the vetting, and the interviews. You can book a call to talk through what came out of your worksheet.
Is this just a to do list?
No. A to do list tells you what is left. This tells you what should not have been yours.
